Notice of Effective Date for New Rules of the
Tennessee Auctioneer Commission

Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 4-3-1306(d), you are receiving this notice because you have elected to receive notification by e-mail of certain changes or potential changes to the law applicable to your profession.

The Tennessee Auctioneer Commission (“Commission”) approved the proposed rules at the rulemaking hearing conducted on August 19, 2024. The rules were filed with the Secretary of State on December 6, 2024, and will become effective March 6, 2025.

The proposed rules amend certain requirements for public automobile auctioneers and public automobile auctions. Specifically, as required by a statutory change, lowering the age requirement for the public automobile auctioneer license application from twenty-one (21) to eighteen (18) years of age. Additionally, the rules clarify the public automobile auction is to hold the Motor Vehicle Commission’s motor vehicle dealer license. This amendment will provide clarification to public automobile auctioneers and public automobile auctions following statutory amendments. A full copy of these rules can be viewed online at:
