Fire Commission Updates May 2017, Training & Certification 05/22/2017

1. July 1st we will start requiring a new form for testing at the Fire Fighter I level, this form will be for T.C.A. 4-24-112 Minimum Training Requirements and will need to be completed and attached in Acadis prior to the written exam for Fire Fighter I. this form is located on our website under Certification Applications & Forms / Fire Fighter at http://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/commerce/attachments/FFC_Approved_FFI_Local_Verification_Form_2017.pdf

2. The next Business Meeting / Rulemaking Hearing of the Commission is September 13th 2017 8:45am Eastern Time at the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike Oak Ridge, TN 37830

The commission has also set the date for the West TN meeting for November 29th at the Memphis Fire Training Center - more information to follow at a later date.

3. Thanks to everyone that came out the Fire Commission 101 class at the Smoky Mountain Weekend in Gatlinburg. We plan to repeat this class in both Middle and West TN in the next several months. When we have the dates and locations set we will send out a notice and post that on our website.

4. Remember this is Emergency Medical Services Week May 21–27 and that Free Training is available through https://www.usfa.fema.gov/  the current application period is now open through June 15th.

5. Congratulations to Oklahoma City Fire Chief Keith Bryant, who has been selected by the President to head the U.S. Fire Administration, the lead federal agency overseeing the nation's fire prevention and control efforts. Bryant, 57, has been Oklahoma City's fire chief for 12 years.

In the new post, he will be responsible for fire training and education and preparing first responders and health care leaders to react to all hazard and terrorism emergencies.
