2015 Legislative Update
The Tennessee General Assembly has recently made changes to statutes which may impact you as a holder of a license with the Division of Regulatory Boards. These new changes set out in the following Public Chapter specifically amend the Tennessee Code Annotated as follows:
Public Chapter 466 (SB1098/HB1043) expands the duties of automotive dismantlers and recyclers and scrap metal processors in verifying ownership of a vehicle before purchase and sale to include updating a federal database. The criminal penalties are also expanded for violations of this law regarding scrap motor vehicles. Additionally, this law adds a new biennial fee of five hundred dollars ($500) for motor vehicle dismantler and recyclers required to be licensed by the Motor Vehicle Commission. This fee is effective as of July 1, 2015. The remainder of this law will take effect July 1, 2016.
