Notice of Effective Date
New Rule for the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission
Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 4-3-1306(d), you are receiving this notice because you have elected to receive notification by e-mail of certain changes or potential changes to the law applicable to your profession.
On July 31, 2015, the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission approved a rule affecting a motor vehicle dealer’s telephone number requirements. This change amended Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. § 0960-01-.21(3) so that a motor vehicle dealer may now satisfy the primary telephone number requirement with a cell phone number. Land line phone numbers are no longer required. If a motor vehicle dealer elects to use a cell phone as its primary telephone number, the cell phone number must be listed in the local directory under the name of the dealership. This rule became effective September 22, 2016.
