| Greetings from the Fire Commission, I hope you all are doing well. We have added a new page to our web site at http://www.tn.gov/fire/commFireFighting.shtml under Forms and Downloads then go to Certification Related. This page has new information about 3 new levels of certification we plan to offer this fall. In addition, this page also contains the Reading / Reference list for 6 levels that will be updated to new NFPA standards January 2015. These new levels to be added this fall are Fire Inspector I and Fire Investigator, both courses will require the applicant to attend and successfully complete an approved course which will be available through TFACA. Also, we plan to launch Fire Officer IV this fall. The levels that will be updated to the new standards effective January 2015 are Fire Fighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations and Fire Instructor I & II.
Next, we will be going to an on-line application in the near future that will be done through ACADIS, as a result all applicants will be reqiured to have a PSID# in order to fill out an application to take both written and practical exams. This will serve as your personal ID instead of your SS#. If your department is not already on-board with ACADIS please contact TFACA, or our office for directions or visit:

The Commission wants to provide the fire service as much early notice as possible in order to allow you time to acquire the reference documents for your members. Also we want to give you time to get on-board with Acadis. In addition, our next Commission Work Session is scheduled for Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 9:00 am (central) with the Business Meeting to follow on Thursday August 7, 2014 at 9:00 am (central). All aeetings will be held at Madison County Fire Department located at 2432 Technology Center Drive Jackson, Tennessee 38301-5614. If you have items for the agenda, they will need to be in our office by July 21st.
Also, we want to make you aware of a training opportunity at TFACA June 26-27. This course entitled Tennessee Chief/Training Officer Symposium that will cover these five topics: Overview UL Test Burn, Upcoming Rule Changes (Fire Commission), New Curriculum (TFACA), Cardiac and Dehydration Issues and Tool Box Leadership. In closing, over the next several months, we will be working to update our skill sheets and test banks to the new standards for those levels listed above. We ask for your patience as we go through this process. It is an honor to serve Tennessee Fire Service as we move forward.
