Commission Updates Sept 2015, Training & Certification 09/03/2015

At its meeting conducted August 25th at Paris Landing State Park, the Commission voted to update NFPA 1021 from the 2009 edition to the 2014 edition. The following are the changes the Commission made in reference to this 2014 edition of NFPA 1021 effective January 1, 2016. The practical for all levels will be completed as a project assigned by a commission coordinator and submitted for grading. The candidate must complete a course for each level which has been approved by the commission which meets the general prerequisite skills and objectives of the relevant chapter of NFPA 1021, 2014 Edition.

Fire Officer I

Perquisites: Fire Fighter II & Fire Instructor I

The candidate must complete the following: NIMS IS-700, NIMS ICS-100, and NIMS IS-200.

Fire Officer II

Perquisites Fire Officer I

Fire Officer III

Perquisites: Fire Officer II

The candidate must complete the following: NIMS IS-700, NIMS ICS-100, NIMS ICS-200, and NIMS ICS-300.

Note-Instructor II is no longer required as a perquisite for Fire Officer III.

Fire Officer IV

Fire Officer IV will remain as it is expect the test bank will change to the 2014 Edition.

2. IFSTA, Chief Officer, 3rd Edition

3. Jones and Bartlett, National Incident Management System, Principles and Practices, 2nd Edition, 1st Printing

4. Jones and Bartlett, Chief Officer, Principles and Practice, 1st Edition

Transition Period

Anyone who has completed a practical or written exam and received a PASSING grade under the 2009 Edition of NFPA 1021 will have until June 30th of 2016 to successfully PASS the remaining required exam (Written or Practical). After June 30th, 2016 applicants will be required to meet the Commission’s requirements listed above for the 2014 Edition of NFPA 1021.

Item 2. Practical Exam / Written Exam (Order of)

Also, at the meeting conducted August 25th at Paris Landing State Park, the Commission voted to make the following changes:

Practical hands-on practical exams for (Hazardous Materials Operations, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Instructor I, PDO, AADO, FAO, Wildland I & II, Fire Safety Compliance I & II, Airport FF, etc.) will remain as they currently are and must be successfully passed prior the written exam. However, the practical exams for (Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Fire Officer III, Fire Officer IV, Fire Department Instructor II, Fire and Life Safety Educator I & II, Incident Safety Officer, Inspector, Investigator etc.) a candidate can challenge the commission written exam prior to completing the practical exam. Certification will not be issued until both written and practical exams have been successfully passed by the applicant.
