Dear Fire Service Professionals:

It is hard to believe that it is the middle of August already 2015. With that, I want to remind you that your department’s 2016 Educational Incentive Pay in-service training program must be submitted to the commission office before November 1, 2015. We plan to complete the “Peer Review” events in November so we can have everyone approved before January 1, 2016.

A few key points to remember about your training program before you submit it:

  • Programs must be a minimum of 40-hours.
  • Instructor must have their TN Commission Instructor number listed.
  • Hazardous Materials instructors must have their TN Commission Instructor number (if available) as well as a brief biography submitted. If multiple hazardous materials instructors will be utilized, submit their name and their TN Commission Instructor number and after the list of instructors a summary biography that will be true for each instructor.
  • If TFACA or other agency/organization is teaching a class for your department, the test and test key should be, “Proprietary Course and Test; Test Scores Will Be Kept on File at the Department”Classes like American Heart CPR and Vanessa K. Free if instructed from a can curriculum, the test and test key should be, “Proprietary Course and Test; Test Scores Will Be Kept on File at the Department”.
  • If you develop and teach your own class, remember each class must be a minimum of 2-hours.
  • Each class must have a minimum of 10 multiple choice questions or 1 question per hour whichever is greatest as a test instrument.
  • Multiple Choice questions must not have answer choices like “All of the Above”, “True/ False”, matching, “Both A and C”, and etc.
  • Classes that are taught on more than 1-day, must administer multiple versions of the exam. Please only submit 1 version with your program for approval.
  • You can utilize up to 20-hours of online training.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be more than happy to help you submit a quality program that meets the rules of the commission.

Best Regards,
