| Please assist in the effort to collect data on “fire department needs” in Tennessee.
The NFPA Fire Department Needs Assessment Survey has been in circulation for 2 months around the country with very minimal response to the survey of approximately 10%, and less than that in the southern region.
As background about the survey: NFPA conducts this survey every 5 years to determine the needs and gaps of the U.S. fire service. U.S. Congress and USFA use the findings to determine how to allocate Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) funding among U.S. fire departments. Local fire departments also use the report to justify their budgets. This is a high-profile report that impacts the support of the fire service.
NFPA is planning to improve their reporting back to each state, but in order to do that they need more participation within each state. Check out the map (at the bottom of the linked webpage) to see how well each state is represented. Please help us make Tennessee a leader in showing our needs for the fire service. This is a very important effort and can only continue to benefit our state. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted the survey. Please circulate this reminder to your contacts.
