Notice from the Board of Respiratory Care
The Board of Respiratory Care hereby provides this notice as a reminder to all practitioners licensed in the Respiratory Care profession to check to make sure that credentials with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) are renewed and maintained, especially when engaging in Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis. All practitioners are also to ensure that address on file with the Board of Respiratory Care is up to date.
Under Tennessee Code Annotated, T.C.A. 63-51-101 et seq., otherwise known as The Health Care Consumer Right-to-Know Act of 1998, certain designated health care providers, including respiratory care practitioners are required to provide certain information in a profile to Tennessee Department of Health. Information in each profile should include, among other requirements, the practitioner's primary practice address(es), education history, professional certifications and history of any disciplinary actions taken against licensee within the last ten (10) years. Under this law, licensees also have a responsibility to update the information in a completed profile with any changes and notify the Health Department within thirty (30) days after the occurrence of an event or the attainment of a status that is required to be reported. Under Section 63-51-117, Tennessee Code Annotated, the Board of Respiratory Care have the authority to refuse to issue or renew a license for any licensee who fails to provide the required information and to assess a fine of up to $50 for each day of non-compliance.
This is a reminder that all respiratory care practitioners should review their submitted profiles published on the Department of Health's website at https://apps.health.tn.gov/Licensure/ and submit any required update or changes to the profile to the board's administrative office. A blank profile questionnaire can be found on the board's website at https://www.tn.gov/health/health-program-areas/health-professional-boards/rc-board/rc-board/applications.html . Updated paper profiles can also be submitted to the board's administrative office at 665 Mainstream Drive, 2nd Floor, Nashville, Tennessee 37243 or faxed to (615) 253-8724.
