Greetings from the fire commission, just wanted to drop a few reminders:

Our next commission meeting will be on February 4th in Murfreesboro at the Embassy Suites located at 1200 Conference Center Boulevard, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. This meeting is being held in conjunction with the TN Fire Chief’s Winter Meeting. Meeting times are 10:00 AM central for the Work Session and 12:30 PM for the Business Meeting. The agenda has been placed on our website along with the web-link for the meeting. In addition, our new rules went into effect on January 25th; these have been updated on our website under Additional Information Label on the bottom left hand side of our home page.

DOHR is still taking applications for Fire Fighting Commission Coordinator. This opening is posted on our website as well and will run till February 8th.

In 2014, the commission added three new levels of certifications to its list of certifications offered. These certifications are Fire Officer IV, Fire Investigator, and Fire Inspector I. Each of these levels were developed, validated and correlated and then sent to IFSAC for administrative review and gain accreditation. We wish to thank all of those who help bring these levels forwar. These include TN Fire Service & Codes Academy, SFMO Bomb & Arson, TN Chapter of IAAI, TN Fire Safety Inspectors, TN Fire Chief’s, TN Advisory Committee on Arson and others who played a vital role in the process.

Just a reminder to our career departments in our Educational Incentive Program that your in-service verification and other related forms are required to be in by March 1st . Those that are late will need to go before the commission at its April 29th meeting in Gatlinburg.

Also, we wish to thank everyone who hosted and those that came out and participated in the peer-review process for in-service training programs across the state. Commission Coordinator Cross has done an exceptional job managing this task.

Don't forget that SFMO offers free smoke alarms for community, contact clair.marsalis@tn.gov  for more information on how to obtain these.

If you have any questions drop us a email at ffcommission@tn.gov or give us a call at 615.741.6780

Thanks and stay fire safe.
