Greetings from the Fire Commission

August of 2013 in Memphis the commission started on a new path to change the way we do business. As a result, many new rules were drafted and prepared for the commission by Legal for the October 24, 2013 meeting. On April 30, 2014 a public hearing was conducted in Gatlinburg on these proposed rules. We anticipated at that time, these proposed rules would be through the process and in effect by November 1st. Because of this we have worked toward meeting this deadline in several areas such as In-Service training submissions for 2015 for career departments and the anticipation of progression for certification testing. At this point it has become apparent that these new rules will not be in effect November 1st. We are at this time anticipating mid-January 2015 for these rules to be implemented. We again ask for your understanding and patience as we go through this timely process with the Attorney General’s Office and the Secretary of State's Office.

In closing, we will notify everyone through FIRECOMM and post a notice on our website when these rules are implemented. In addition, we here in the commission office want to thank those of you who have embraced the new Acadis web-forms for submission of your applications, request to host exams and submission of your in-service programs for 2015. We plan to conduct our first 2015 Peer Review in November and present those in-service programs at our next commission meeting. That meeting will be December 18th in Brentwood at the Safety Center on Sunset Road. Please visit our website for the latest forms and information at http://www.tn.gov/fire/commFireFighting.shtml . Again we apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this delay may have caused.
