Notice of Effective Date for New Rules of the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission
Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 4-3-1306(d), you are receiving this notice because you have elected to receive notification by e-mail of certain changes or potential changes to the law applicable to your profession.
The Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission (“Commission”) approved proposed rules at a rulemaking hearing conducted on March 17, 2025. These rules were filed with the Secretary of State on June 17, 2025, as rulemaking hearing rules and will be promulgated ninety (90) days from the filing date. Therefore, the rules will become effective September 15, 2025.
The proposed rules raise certain licensing fees assessed by the Commission. This fee increase is necessary since the Commission has not increased its licensure fees in more than fifteen (15) years and the Commission must ensure that it complies with the statutory requirement that each Board or Commission be self-sufficient. The proposed rules also correct outdated statute citations, remove requirements related to sending certified mail, and delegate authority to the Chair to review reconsiderations of final orders following a protest.
